Jeevika has been in existence for over a decade with the sole purpose of eradication bonded labour in karnataka. It has been undertaking a number of programmes and activites with that one aim.
Our Vision
Building an egalitarian society in India giving witness to a life free from bondage by eradicating bonded labour and child labour systems and opposing and abolishing caste-class-patriarchal structures and unequal globalisation processes, through organisation building, conscienitzation, agitation, advocacy, lobbying, networking and study
- in accessing constitutional guarantees and welfare remedies for the weaker sections,
- in promoting self reliant and collective economic ventures,
- in promoting ecological security,
- in promoting holistic health,
- in strengthening decentralisattion efforts in governance through Panchayat Raj Institutions; in seeing that the present representative democracy works for people; and in promoting direct democracy through alternative political processes,
- in questioning superstitious beliefs and practices and inculcating scientific and rational attitudes through, among other things, the promotion of the Buddhist techniques of vipassana in respecting and protecting cultural richness and diversity and opposing communal feelings and forces.
The People We Serve
Jeevika has involved itself with bonded labour in agriculture initially for strategic reasons. Almost all the bonded labourers are dalits and, in tribal areas, tribals. Only a few are from most backward class communities (OBCs). Hence the people of our concern are the following:

Each of the taluk of VT involvement has one taluk coordinator, one woman coordinator and one hobli coordinator for each of the hoblis of a taluk. The cultural troupes in each of the taluks consists of the regular activists and part time cultural activists. The four residential bridge courses as part of back to school programmes have separate teachers and activists.
